Walnut are most beneficial nuts for the heart
Roasted and raw walnuts are the most beneficial for heart health, compared with other types of nuts, according to a new study published in the journal Food & Function.
Researchers from the University of Skrantan, Pennsylvania, compare the amount of polyphenols contained in 9 kinds roasted and raw nuts and two kinds of peanut butter. Through laboratory analysis, they also tested how effective antioxidants in the products on heart health.
Whether roasted or raw walnuts win the competition. They have the highest content of polyphenols, which are useful for reducing the risk of heart disease by lowering cholesterol levels in the blood, improving blood flow and prevent inflammation.
In addition they have all the nutrients necessary for a healthy diet, walnuts contain high levels of protective antioxidants which counter the effects of harmful free radicals.
