Scientists develop a vaccine against hepatitis C

One of the first clinical trials of a vaccine against hepatitis C showed promising results, says the journal Science Translational Medicine.Development of a vaccine for this type of hepatitis is very difficult process due to the constant change of the virus.

That’s why scientists are trying to make the inside of the vaccine virus and not from his shell.

In the study, 41 volunteers took part, which is injected into the experimental vaccine. The results show very strong immune response by the body that lasts for one year without any side effects.

The hepatitis C virus is transmitted primarily through blood. Intravenous drug use or other unauthorized substances with needles and syringes is the most common route of transmission. The risk of transmitting hepatitis C sexually is significantly lower than that in hepatitis C.

Hepatitis C is a viral infection that can cause inflammation of the liver and damage it. He is currently one of the most common forms of chronic viral hepatitis. According to World Health Organization, over 170 million people are infected with the virus.

Obtaining a working vaccine virus is a major step forward, is the research team.

The next step provides testing on volunteers – people in whom the risk of virus infection is high in order to verify its effectiveness, the researchers explain.
